celebrating 10 years of the pass
In 2005 I spent a long weekend in byron with my partner Rich & friends. together we rode waves in a sea kayak, listened to tunes at the beach hotel, and I jumped out of a perfectly good plane
10 years later I returned with rich & my two beautiful kids. We swam, explored, ate lots of ice-cream, and I wandered the coastline with my camera. standing at the top of the stairs at the pass, I took this photograph which would later turn out to be my most popular print, shipped to all corners of the globe. the pass is an iconic landmark in byron, and i think this image captures the essence of why it is one of the most popular places to surf & play in australia
In a touch of syncronicity i returned with my family in june 2025, 10 years later again. this time, with adolescent kids and a car full of surfboards, we swam, walked, dined out, watched movies and i even caught a couple of waves at the pass myself. i took my favourite nikon digital slr and my medium format holga for a bit of fun. planning to return before another 10 years has passed by x
